On Friday 20th of October 2023, the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" celebrated the Interreg Cooperation Day. This year the event was dedicated to the vine & wine since we are at the end of the harvest season and at the beginning of the wine-production season.In this respect, we visited the semi-mountainous village of Palea Kavala in Kavala -Greece and more specific the winery of Mr. Konstantinos Lalikos which is receiving financial support by the Programme through the project LACOSTO. Mr. Lalikos toured as at the winery and presented us step-by-step the wine production procedure. Τhe tour closed with wine-tasting of some of Mr. Lalikos best wines.The event continued with the presentation of the results of the projects DIONYSOS, LACOSTO and VINESOS which all have in common the protection, the preservation and the promotion of the local vine varieties that thrive in the cross-border area of Greece and Bulgaria and the promotion of the area as an oenotourism destination. Good practices that emerged through projects funded by the Interreg Programmes "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" and "Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020" were highlighted at an event of the Managing Authority of Interreg 2021-2027, held in the context of the 87th International Fair of Thessaloniki, with the participation of representatives of the Greek and Bulgarian national authorities, as well as the Consulate of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki, represented by Mr. Vladimir Inkov.

Interact has released the latest issue of “Stories of European Cooperation”, a magazine with articles that explain the benefits of Interreg projects written by young participants in the Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) programme and published by Interact in collaboration with the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR). This issue has been inspired by the European Year of Skills: the five volunteers wrote about Interreg projects that contribute to boost citizens’ skills that are relevant to their regions. REGIOSTARS are the yearly competition organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General Regional and Urban Policies since 2008. Over the years it has become the Europe’s label of excellence for EU-funded projects, which demonstrate the impact and inclusiveness of regional development. 2023 is the year of renewal and re-launch of the competition.

On the 2nd of February 2023 the 1st Monitoring Committee meeting of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg VI-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2021-2027" took place in Thessaloniki. On the same day, also the 9th Monitoring Committee meeting of the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A "Greece-Bulgaria" took place. The MC meetings were chaired by Mr. George Zervos - Special Secretary for ERDF & CF Programs from the Ministry of Development & Investments of Greece. The co-chairperson Ms. Desislava Georgieva - Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria delivered a welcome speech. Mr. Ivan Fecenko - Desk Officer from the European Commission - DG Regional and Urban Policy also participated (online). All members agreed that in 2023 cross-border cooperation must be intensified for a successful closure of the 2014-2020 Programme and a dynamic launch of the new Programme 2021-2027.

On the occasion of the European Year of Youth (2022), INTERACT Programme organized on the 7th and 8th of November the Youth Road Show in Southeast Europe, one of the four (4) areas in Europe with the most youth-related projects financed by Interreg during the 2014-2020 period. Four youth projects of four different Interreg Programmes welcomed at their facilities in Thessaloniki and Serres in Greece, a group of representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the local and regional authorities, and the Managing Authorities of the Programmes, highlighting the benefits that the young people of the area and the local community have gained from the implementation of the projects.

This year the celebration of the European Cooperation Day (EC-Day) of the CP INTERREG VA “Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” moved to the border line of Greece & Bulgaria, at the regional unit of Evros. More than 100 participants from the cross-border area enjoyed the 2-days celebration that took place on the 7th and the 8th of October 2022 at the wider area of Orestiada (Greece), and included various events: conference, theater, hiking, dance). The celebration was organised in cooperation with the Project SYNERGIA and the ETCP INTERREG Balkan-Mediterranean.

The Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) initiative offers the possibility to young people aged 18-30 from any EU country and other partner countries to serve as volunteers in cross-border, transnational or interregional programmes and related projects. The initiative is aimed at involving young volunteers to support, promote and report the concrete achievements of Interreg, IPA-CBC and ENI-CBC programmes and projects, as well as generally promote cooperation across borders and related values such as solidarity. The winners will also embark on a 3-month training and coaching programme to create a powerful performance on stage.

The “Together We Can'' transnational Citizen’s Engagement Activity (CEA) funded by the European Commission and led by the IVY volunteers of Interreg Greece-Bulgaria and Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean programme took place from April 3rd to April 9th, 2022. Its objective was to involve youth in civic programmes through the IVY programme to spread knowledge on the folds of cross border cooperation.
The aim of the event is to promote the EU Cohesion Policy through a clean-up event, with the involvement of young people. With the help of partners in every country and the participation of 140 young people the event was successfully implemented.

The IVY volunteers of the Interreg Greece-Bulgaria and Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean programmes are organizing a transnational environmental event under the name “Together We Can”. “Together We Can” is a Citizen’s Engagement Activity, aimed to promote the EU Cohesion Policy through three (3) transnational clean-up events that will take place in Greece, Bulgaria, and Albania with the participation of young people.
1) Greece: at the Summer Camps of Melissohori (location), on April 3rd, 2022 at 11AM.2) Bulgaria: at the Hunting Lodge Park (location), on April 6th, 2022 at 1PM.
3) Albania: at the Fusha Basketbolli dhe Park Lojrash (location), on April 9th, 2022 at 10AM.

The 3rd meeting of the Programming Committee (PC) of the Cooperation Programme (CP) Interreg “Greece-Bulgaria 2021-2027” was held via teleconference on Wednesday, the 9th of Mach 2022.
The meeting was followed by a written procedure which closed on the 28th of March 2022, concluding to the approval of the final draft of the new Programme, before its submission to the European Commission.

The Commission seeks potential beneficiaries that will develop a curriculum and teaching materials for a course on the European Union and on EU Cohesion policy for journalism students, set up a deployment strategy, create a network of education institutions and implement the course. Proposals can be submitted by universities and other educational institutions teaching journalism at undergraduate and graduate level. Applicants must be located in an EU Member State and be accredited under the legislation of that country. The Commission will cover 95% of the cost of the project.

The “European Cooperation Day 2021 – Rooting for a greener future” event took place successfully at “Alonia” of Oreokastro, on the 25th of September. The Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" worked together with the Municipality of Oreokastro to organize a tree-planting event. Thanks to the active participation of over 60 citizens, including children, and the contribution of local unions, 116 trees were planted in the area. Press Release (EN/EL)

The Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020", in cooperation with the Municipality of Oreokastro are organising in the framework of the European Cooperation Day 2021 (EC-Day 2021), a tree planting event. This year is the 10th year anniversary of the ECDay campaign and we celebrate it by contributing in the enhancement of our environment and the improvement of our neighborhood. The event will take place on Saturday, the 25th of September 2021 at the area “Alonia” of the Municipality of Oreokastro (next to the Municipal Citizen's Service Centre), from 10.00 a.m. to 13.00 p.m.

As part of the ongoing evaluation, DG REGIO invites you to participate in the survey and provide your opinion about the functioning of the electronic data exchange systems (e-Cohesion systems). The results of this survey will identify strengths and weaknesses of the e-Cohesion systems across the EU and inform policy development for the 2021-2027 programming period. The Cooperation Programme INTERREG VA "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" is looking for two (2) Interreg Volunteer Youth IVY reporters to carry out communication tasks, in order to enhance the visibility of the programme and the projects. The two volunteers will be placed in the MA/JS premises in Thessaloniki-Greece for 4-5 months and will work closely with the JS/MA staff in order to collect, present and disseminate the Programme's achievements for the period 2014-2020.

Projects beneficiaries of Interreg can host a volunteer to support, promote and report achievements of cooperation. The volunteer will be part of your team, bring new ideas and help realisethe projectand advertise its results. Each experience is of a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 6 months. Volunteers receive full insurance coverage from AEBR, as well as a financial support, according to the European Solidarity Corps of which IVY is part.
The application procedure is simple and AEBR looks for candidates thanks to the partnership with the European Solidarity Corps. AEBRfinancially supportsthe volunteer, coversthe insurance and helps the volunteer relocate. Find more information to apply here.

The eva;uation results of the project proposals submitted under the 2nd phase of the 6th Call for project proposals of the Cooperation Programme INTERREG VA "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" have been announced.
Out of the 34 project proposals that were submitted electronically through MIS:
- 25 project proposals have been approved for funding, receiving score from 56 to 66 points;
- 6 projects have been included in the reserve list and
- 3 poject proposals have been rejected.
The total submitted budget for the apporved project proposals is € 14.468.758,40 and for the reserve list projects € 3.938.774,50.

The 7th Monitoring Committee meeting of the Programme INTERREG V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" took place on Thursday the 10th of December 2020. The meeting was held virtually and was attended by the majority of the Monitoring Committee members. Among the issued discussed and decisions taken were the approval of the results of the 6th Call - Phase II evaluation and the Programme amendment. The MC members were also informed about the financial & operational progress of the Programme and the on-going works of the Programming Committee for the new programming period 2021-2027.

On the 1st of October 2020, the Capitalization Event of all 9a Priority projects funded by the Cooperation Programme INTERREG V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" took place in Thessaloniki. The scope of the event was to generate a full report, focused on an ex-post evaluation, with all findings and recommendations as a contribution towards the planning of the 2021-2027 Programme, including a summary of achievements of the Programming Period 2014-2020.

The evaluation results of the project proposals submitted under the 1st Phase of the 6th Call of the CP INTERREG V-A "Greece- Bulgaria 2014-2020" have been announced.
Out of the 49 submitted project proposals, 10 were rejected as ineligible to proceed to phase 2 of the application procedure and 39 were approved for the next phase.

After a long evaluation procedure, the Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the CP INTERREG V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" are happy to announce the results of the 5th Call for Project Proposals «Grant scheme for supporting SMEs to grow and expand beyond local markets».
Out of the 55 submitted investment plans, 36 projects proposals were approved for funding, whereas 19 project proposals did not fulfil the Call's criteria and were rejected. All project proposals meeting the Call requirements were approved for funding, exceeding the total indicative Public Expenditure of the Call (10,000,000.00€).
The total budget of the approved project proposals is 18.907.430,95€. The total Public Contribution rises up to 12.289.830,12€, 85% of which is ERDF funds and 15% is National Contributions by Greece and Bulgaria.

This year (2020) INTERREG is turning 30!
Interreg was launched in 1990 and over the past 30 years it has proved that borders are not barriers. Interreg has brought Europeans closer together, establishing cooperations across borders at regional & national level, to the benefit of all EU citizens. It is time to question, to re-think, and to give a new breath to what we consider as a fundamental value in the European Union: cooperating between people, regions, and countries close to us. We want to celebrate the past and we want to do more together in the future.

On the 8th of October 2019, eight Interreg Projects selected by INTERACT, were challenged to perform live on stage during the Interreg Project Slam event that took place in Brussels, in the framework of the EU Regions Week 2019. Watch here the Interreg Project Slam video.
MEDICINET II, a project of the CP INTERREG VA "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020", was selected among these eight projects. Even though MEDICINET II did not win the first prize (ranked 7th), we are really proud of their performance! It's also worth mentioning that MEDICINET II project ranked 2nd at the Interreg Project Slam Social Media competition!

The annual celebration of the European initiative promoting the cross-border and multinational cooperation European Cooperation Day was organized by the Territorial Cooperation Management Directorate / Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, as the National Authority of the INTERREG V-A Greece - Bulgaria 2014-2020 Programme, in cooperation with the Municipality of Blagoevgrad.
European Cooperation Day 2019 was celebrated in the period 28 - 29 September 2019 in Blagoevgrad, within the autumn edition of the Balkan Games Festival. The aim of the festival, part of the cross-border project "BORDERLESS CULTURE” was to promote the skills and achievements of Europe's young citizens, giving them opportunities to perform on stage, encouraging their pursuit of personal and creative development.
The festival days were showground full of colours and sounds enabling the participants to share the ethno-cultural, musical and dance diversity of Bulgaria and Greece. The residents and guests of Blagoevgrad, as well as the numerous guests from Greece, had the opportunity to enjoy a program that offered different music styles, dances, art studios with possibilities to create handmade souvenirs, art installations, folklore shows, street parade, and virtual reality touristic tours.

The 1st phase of the submission procedure of project proposals under the 6th Call for Project Proposals of the CP INTERREG VA "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" was concluded yesterday, the 7/10/2019 at 15hrs. The JS received 48 project proposals in total!
The 6th Call is targeted to the Programme Priority Axis 1: A Competitive and Innovative Cross-Border Area, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs in the Greece-Bulgaria border area (Thematic Objective 03) and contributes to Programme Specific Objective to improve entrepreneurship SME support systems. The total indicative applicable budget of the 6th Call amounts to € 7.000.000,00 ( € 5.950,000,00 of ERDF funds and € 1.050.000,00 National Contribution by Greece and Bulgaria).

The MA and the JS of the CP Interreg V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020", in cooperation with: "The Smile of the Child" (INTERSYC II); the 4th Health District of Macedonia-Thrace (SMILE) and the Young Men’s Christian Association –YMCA (PROMO-YMC(H)A), are organising in the framework of the European Cooperation Day 2019, a festal event entitled “Join the game, win at life!”. The event will take place on Sunday, 22/09/2019, in Thessaloniki, is mainly addressed to children (7-15 years old) and includes a variety of sports, medical and learning activities. In the context of the European Cooperation Day 2017, the cross-border Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Programme “Greece – Bulgaria” and the transnational Cooperation Programme Interreg V-B “Balkan – Mediterranean” are organizing actions aiming to inform various groups of people while touching the sensitive subjects of education and solidarity.
On Wednesday 20th September 2017 in Haskovo (Bulgaria) and on Thursday 21th September 2017 in Orestiada (Greece) the two Programmes will have the chance to spread the word of European Cooperation while taking the opportunity though the established info-kiosks to show actions and results that are realized with co-financing from the Programme funds. A post card exhibition, an educational entertainment “Treasure Hunt” game, a blood donation event and a blood donation volunteers’ torch race are the activities that will take place. Following the first phase (Phase A) of the public consultation process for the development of the new Operational Programme “Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” organized by the Managing Authority (MA) of European Territorial Cooperation Programmes and the Bulgarian National Authority, the M.A. organizes the 1st Policy Development Workshop (Phase B) in Komotini, Greece, on Thursday, 15th of May, 2014.
