The general objective of the project is the development and the introduction of prevention policies, at Municipality level, in the remote cross-border areas The project aims at designing a health prevention policy for local authorities of first degree, with focus on those of remote areas, as a response to the particular conditions prevailing there as well as due to the difficulties of their population to accessing health care service providers.
The project designs the health profile and develops pilot prevention policy applications in the Μunicipalities of Arriana and Iasmos in Greece and in the Μunicipalities of Krumovgrad and Momchilgrad in Bulgaria, while the synthesis of the conclusions from the pilot applications leads to setting up a methodology on customised preventive interventions for the Local and Regional Authorities in the Greece - Bulgaria Cross-Border Area and beyond. The Healthy Municipality project introduces and elaborates the concept of the provision of preventive health services by the Municipalities. Bodies with different statuses, but complementary action, such as public organizations, research departments of Universities, Local Authorities, decided to participate in the specific cooperation project, looking forward to the synthesis of their experiences to actively develop a common methodology for health prevention at Municipality level. Pilot applications have been implemented and adapted to local conditions, local health prevention plans have been prepared. The Municipalities are enabled to use the results as ready-made tools for their health prevention policies. A cross-border lab on prevention and primary health policies is being established as a continuous laboratory on the subject of the proper primary health policy and management. Municipalities acquire knowledge on preventive health policies and are supported by the scientific and specialised in the health sector partners of the present project.
