Strategic Project CROSSBO: Completion of the construction of the BCCP “Rudozem-Xanthi and an access road”

The construction of the BCCP “Rudozem-Xanthi and an access road” has been completed, with the financial support of the CP INTERREG VA "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020", in the framework of the strategic project CROSSBO - Aiming at Improving Cross - Border Accessibility.
The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, and the acting Prime Minister, Stefan Yanev, visited and inspected the BCCP “Rudozem-Xanthi”. After getting acquainted with the work done on the spot, they both praised the project and the construction of the completed site. A 72-hour test and acceptance of the checkpoint by a state acceptance commission is forthcoming in order to put it into operation. After delivery of equipment and furniture, the employees of the Customs Agency, GD Border Police and the Greek border guards will have all the necessary working conditions.

The object consists of two subprojects (Road II-86 and BCCP) located on a territory with a total area of 76 decares, which includes:
- 33 decares - territory for construction of the access road in a section from km 134 + 000 to km. 134 + 660 т.с. to the beginning of the ground for the BCCP on Road II-86 and construction of a parking lot with an area of 2400 sq.m .;
- 37 decares for the ground of the BCCP, with average dimensions 370x100 m. (Including the approach Road II-86 to the intersection with the Republic of Greece at km. 135 + 066);
- 6 decares ground for additional activities and technical infrastructure.
The access road in a section from km 134 + 000 to km. 134 + 660 is 10 m wide and includes two lanes for traffic in the direction Republic of Greece and one in the direction Republic of Bulgaria, as well as banquets of 1.5 m each.
In a section of km. 134 + 660 to km. 135 + 066 (the ground for the BCCP) - the transport infrastructure is separated by four lanes of traffic in both directions "incoming" and "outgoing".
The belts are provided: 1 piece for heavy trucks, 2 pieces for cars and 1 piece for buses, with the respective technical dimensions. The total average width is 25 m in the direction, including the asphalt lanes and the island sidewalks.
The following are also located at the BCCP ground:
- Two-storey administrative building with a total area of 890 sq.m, where the administrative part for GD Border Police, the administrative part for the Customs Agency and the connecting part are located;
- Double cabins for Greek and Bulgarian border guards - 6 pieces, cabins for customs control - 8 pieces and one double cab-pass at both ends
The ground for additional activities and technical infrastructure includes an underground water tank and fire-fighting needs with a pumping station, a substation and a diesel unit, a cesspool, a ladder with a footbridge, a parking lot for Bulgarian employees.
The statistics of completed construction and installation works on the project include:
Road part:
- Total excavation of the upper layer of soil - 19,551 cubic meters.
- Excavation road part - 79 888 000 cubic meters.
- Embankment road part - 217 999 cubic meters.
- Rectangular gutters 4 pieces with a total length of 209 m.
- Pipe culverts 2 pieces with a total length of 94 m.
- Collector pipes f 200 and f 300 - 531 m.
- Road base of crushed stone - 7 474 cubic meters.
- Inspection shafts of prefabricated elements - 12 pcs.
- Rainwater manholes - 29 pcs.
- Drainage trenches with reinforced concrete elements - 628 m.
- Asphalt mixtures for base and bottom layer 12 cm - 3,582 cubic meters.
- First bitumen spill - 10,700 sq.m.
- Concrete works - 772 cubic meters.
- Waterproofing in foundations - 167 sq.m.
Structures - buildings and fences:
- Excavation for foundations - 15 061 cubic meters.
- Embankment - 7,430 cubic meters.
- Concrete - 1,724 cubic meters.
- Reinforcing steel - 144 699 kg.
- Profile steel - 18 469 kg.
- Shuttering and stripping - 5 191 sq.m.
