Strategic Project CROSSBO: Launch of the construction works of the site BCCP “Rudozem – Xanthi”

With a symbolic "first dig", the Regional Governor Nedyalko Slavov launched the actual construction work of the site - BCCP “Rudozem – Xanthi” and access road.
The object is being built under the strategic project entitled "Cross-border Access Improvement Project (CrossBo)" of the Cooperation Programme INTERREG V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020". The project beneficiaries are EGNATIA ODOS S.A., Greece and on the Bulgarian side - Road Infrastructure Agency and Regional Administration of Smolyan. The total budget of the project is EUR 38 802 558, 00.
The ceremony was honored by project beneficiaries from Bulgaria and Greece, designers, supervisors and builders, regional governors, mayors, directors and representatives of regional and national institutions and agencies, clergy, media and citizens.
By a decree of the Council of Ministers of December 18, 2019, a co-financing of BGN 18 445 744 was secured for the construction of the BCCP Rudozem-Xanthi.
This step fulfills the commitment of the Bulgarian state, both under the INTERREG V-A "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020" Cooperation Programme and under the Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Republic of Greece in 1996 for opening three border check points and road links between the two countries, which had to be completed by 1998. Under the Agreement, the BCCP Rudozem-Xanthi is being built for all types of passengers and cargos. It will have 4 conveyor belts for passing into two directions.
