Project Flood Protection: The retaining wall of Dr. Petar Beron Street in Smolyan was officially opened

„As a representative of the contracting authority, it is my great pleasure and satisfaction to note that this important site for the town of Smolyan was successfully built and commissioned last week“, said the Regional Governor Nedyalko Slavov at the official opening of the site: „Construction of a Retaining Wall on „Dr. Peter Beron“ Str. Next to the Roman Bridge, on the right bank of Cherna river, Smolyan. Slavov thanked the Deputy Minister Denitsa Nikolova for the support the institution she represents and for her help in structuring this project in 2015 throughout the implementation process. He also thanked all those involved in the project - designers, builders, supervisors, the project team, the Municipality of Smolyan, the Municipal Council - Smolyan, all the state institutions, which in a very short time have performed the necessary procedures and approvals.

„I am sure that the people in this neighborhood already feel much more relaxed and protected. This is our mission, as governors and as politicians, to solve social problems, and today I feel satisfied“, said Regional Governor Nedyalko Slavov in conclusion.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works and Head of the Managing Authority of OPRD Denitsa Nikolova said that there is nothing better than to preserve human life. She noted the extreme importance of the project „Cross-border Planning and Infrastructure Measures for Flood Protection“, with the acronym Flood Protection, which invests in preventing human life. Deputy Minister Nikolova drew attention to the fact that in the next programming period the aim will be to implement projects of strategic importance for the border regions of the country in partnership with neighboring countries.

The official opening of the site was attended by Smolyan District Governor Nedyalko Slavov, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works and Head of OPRD Managing Authority Denitsa Nikolova, Mayor of  Smolyan Nikolay Melemov and his deputy Marin Zahariev, manager of the company executives „Dulger” OOD - Spiro Chavdarov, Velichka Kostadinova - Expert in Regional Office - Smolyan of MRDPW, Eng. Ivan Peikov - Head of RDNSC - Smolyan, Eng. Kostadinka Milanova - Director of RRM - Smolyan, Eng. Ekaterina Gadzheva - Director of RIEW - Smolyan, the project team, partners, media and others.

The work on the site was implemented under the project „Cross-border Planning and Infrastructure Measures for Flood Protection“, with the acronym Flood Protection, which is funded by the INTERREG V-A Greece-Bulgaria Cooperation Program 2014-2020 and national contributions of Bulgaria and Greece.
