Flood protection Kick Off Meeting

Τhe meeting will be attended by the Governor of the Region of Central Macedonia, Mr Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Vice Governor of Regional District of Serres Mr Ioannis Moysiadis, the Governor of Regional Administration of Blagoevgrad Mr Biser Mihaylov, the Governor of Haskovo Regional Administration Mr Stanislav Dechev, the Governor of Regional Administration of Kardzhali, Mr Nikola Chanev, the Governor of Regional Administration of Smolyan, mr Nedyalko Slavov, representatives from the Region of Eastern Macedonia- Thrace,  the  Decentralised Administration of Macedonia – Thrace and members of the Joint Secretariat of the programme Greece – Bulgaria 2014 -2020.
Through the «Flood Protection» project, joint and coordinated upgrades of the existing and the construction of new planned small-scale infrastructure will be made in 2 river basins on both sides of the borders while a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the impact of the support measures will be made.
The areas of interventions are Strymon/Struma and Evros/Maritsa river basins and their water catchment areas and Lake Kerkini. The Flood Protection project includes small scale infrastructure projects in river basins as well as land improvements to improve ecosystem resistance.
The project budget amounts to € 11.5 million and its duration is  until September 2020. The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and National funds  of the two countries.
