The project aims to enhance the competitiveness of a new and an existing company from the CB area and foster their product and service development. The project foresees the use of solar radiation as a source of renewable energy. Thus, the investment in both Greece and Bulgaria will involve the creation of a PV parks for the production of electricity. The current plan will be executed in declining industrial area of the CB region, while the potential of commercial and industrial solar opportunities in the region are the key challenges that must be addressed to yield substantial savings for businesses. By offering alternatives to fossil fuels, renewables contribute to reducing emissions and help to improve security of energy supply. The present investment plan will have an impact to the economy of the cross-border region. Moving towards a green economy and sustainable development will have multiple benefits in the long run both at cross-border, national and worldwide level.
For the Bulgarian Partner, the comparison of the profitability index with the benefit-cost ratio shows that the project generates significant benefits for the society. The major environmental benefits will be provided by the installation of renewable energy facilities, which will contribute for the annual decrease of CO2 emissions with 251.81 tons per year and estimated production of green energy - 1406 Kwh. For the Greek Partner, the produced energy will be channeled to the electricity network. This energy will replace energy created by fossil fuels. Because of that the PV park of Green Energy IKE will contribute for the annual decrease of CO2 emissions by 226.80 tons per year and contribute to the achievement of the EU 2030 Greek target about renewable energy production (estimated annual production of the Greek PV park 630 MWh/year – the decrease in CO2 emissions is a result of the decreased use of lignite which is the main fuel used of electricity production in Greece).
